Runahara Ganapathi Homam

· Homam

We are always hearing about people who take their own lives due to debts. When all else fails, such people can seek divine help to remove their debts and lead a happy life.

Debts arise due to many reasons. When people live beyond their means, when they face unexpected expenses, or when they lose their jobs, people fall into the debt trap. Sometimes, it could be due to bad habits like gambling, betting, or addictions, failure of business, etc. Medical expenses, too, push people into debt.

Astrologically, certain unfavorable planetary placements in your horoscope can make you incur debts. For instance, planets like Mars, Rahu, and Saturn can cause debts if they are not well-placed. The 6th, 11th, and 12th houses in your birth chart, too, can play a role in this matter. The 6th house indicates debts, the 11th house represents your earning capability, and the 12th house indicates expenses.

Thus, a detailed study of your horoscope can reveal the astrological factors for your debts.

The Sanskrit word ‘Runa’ means ‘debt’, and ‘Hara’ means ‘remove’ or ‘destroy’. The Hindu Scriptures talk about 3 types of Runa or debt. They are:

Deva Runa – This is the debt we owe to the Devas or Gods.

Rishi Runa – This is the debt we owe to the sages or Rishis.

Pitru Runa – This debt is owed to our genetic ancestors.

By worshipping the Gods and being kind to all, we can clear Deva Runa. By following a moral code of conduct that has been laid down by the ancient sages, we can clear Rishi Runa. By doing our duty towards parents and elders, it is possible to clear Pitru Runa. ‘Pitru’ means ‘ancestors’. In the case of Pitru Runa, it is not enough to fulfill our duties to parents when they are alive. We must also perform rituals like Tharpanam and Shraddh after they die and for our ancestors, too.

Those who fail to clear these debts will be reborn on earth and undergo the travails of samsara.

What is Runahara Ganapati Homam?

Runahara Ganapati means ‘Lord Ganapati who removes debts’. Lord Ganesha is believed to be the deity who removes obstacles and gives us wisdom and knowledge. One of his many names is Vighneshwara, which means ‘the Lord who removes obstacles’. Devotees invoke him when they perform Poojas, Homas, and Havans or during all auspicious occasions so that everything goes smoothly and brings about the desired results.

If planetary positions cause obstacles in our life, we will not be able to achieve success, prosperity, and happiness. And without

wisdom and knowledge, we will not be able to solve our problems. Hence, people worship Ganapati to remove the obstacles in their life and bestow the wisdom and knowledge to deal with their problems in the correct manner. In this manner, they hope to be free of debts.

The Runahara Ganapati Homam is performed mainly to eliminate debts. This Homam seeks to invoke Ganapati by chanting the Runahara Ganapati Mantra, and this is followed by the Homa ritual. The Mantra is very powerful and has the power to remove debts, as per the Scriptures.
